WAB Wild has kicked off the new season with a trek for Middle School students and their parents in the Miyun Mountains. This year a Chinese Rural Women’s group joined us. Kaarina, a member of the WAB Wild Adventure Guides Enterprise, has worked a lot with this group, and this was a great opportunity for WAB Wild and the Rural Women’s group to collaborate on a community event.
The trek began at Xia Zhang Jia Fen we entered the Jing Ling Gu Park and began to trek through the mountain trails winding our way up the valley toward the ruins of the village of Shui Quan Yu. Winding our way back down to the Bai He we followed the river North toward the Miao Liang Environmental Center.
Last season WAB Wild HS Adventure Guide Enterprise students ran a ‘Klimb 4 Kids’ program to raise money for community service adventures. The money that they raised was used to support this Rural Women’s trek.
The Chinese Rural Women are from a school in the village of Xiaotangshan. Their school offers them the chance to learn new skills for better opportunities in the work force.
