The ES Library, with the support of the PTA and Distinguished Speaker Series, is excited to bring children's literature expert Diane Frankenstein to WAB to help us as educators and parents engage our children in reading and the love of it! All ES parents are invited to join Diane in the ES Library on Wednesday May 14 and Thursday May 15 for a two-part presentation titled "The Romance of the Novel: To have and to hold."

Diane's presentation will be focused on teaching parents the technique of 'conversational reading,' e.g. where we actually learn what to ask, and what not to ask; when to pause, when not to pause; and how to approach reading to our children and what to select. She will have extensive lists of books which she says are tried and tested and work with children. These books will be on sale during the conference.

Parents are invited to the following sessions:

  • "Foundation Presentation," Wednesday May 14, 7:00pm - 9:00pm, ES Library
  • All ES Parents are encouraged to attend this session, including fathers! Diane will be touching on the influence fathers can have over their children's reading process.
  • Book Talk for ECC - Grade 2 Parents, Thursday May 15, 9:00am - 11:00am, ES Library
  • Book Talk for Grade 3 - 5 Parents, Thursday May 15, 12:30pm - 2:30pm, ES Library

Please RSVP for either or both of these presentations by emailing John Byrne, ES Teacher - Librarian, at jbyrne@wab.edu. We hope you'll take part in this exciting opportunity!

WAB is grateful for the support of the PTA, for the PTA Visiting Author Series, and Austen Morris, sponsor of WAB's Distinguished Speaker Series.
