| "Can you sponsor me in my swimathon so I can help the poor kids from the earthquake?" This was the question that KG student Sasha asked members of the WAB community this week. Sasha swam a total of 16 laps in the ES swimathon and raised 5,000 RMB. He had a smile on his face all week, and he was quick to point out he did all the swimming without any assistance. "I thought I could only swim 7 laps but I kept going! The more laps the more money," he said. This is just one example of many small but large efforts that have helped raise some money to help the devastation in Southern China. Pictured is Sasha with Ilirjan Koxhioni who was one of his kind sponsors. Sasha would like to thank his sponsors and the teachers for organizing the swimathon. |
ES students have undertaken a variety of fundraising efforts to benefit earthquake relief efforts in Sichuan province. Just this past week, the ES received reports of a Grade 4 swimmer who raised 26,500 RMB by acculumlating laps, and another student, from Grade 3, who swam to raise 19,000 RMB. While these are impressive figures for children of this age to be raising, what's most remarkable is the spirit of caring and community that children across the school have shown towards the people of their host country.
Many thanks to all parents, teachers and staff who have encouraged and supported their children's efforts to reach out to those in need.
