During the 2007 Elementary School Beijing and Tianjin International Schools Athletic Conference (ISAC), Grade 4 student Victoria set a new Beijing and Tianjin record for the 200m race, earning one of three gold medals for the competition. In addition to a gold medal for the Under 10 Relay, she won a gold and helped set a new record for the Under 9 Relay.
Victoria shares:
To be an athlete it takes time, training and many hours of practice. When the race starts I always feel nervous, especially in the cross- country. My mum and dad and Mr Davies encourage me before the day of the competition. My dad tells me techniques before the race. However, I always trust my self in the actual race.
I have been involved in the WAB gymnastics team over the past four years. I participated in the performance, “Jump" and "Let Us Entertain You.”
In 2007, I participated in the ISAC Track & Field event, where I broke the ISAC record in the 200m, as well as in the following ES Olympic Dream Series events: 400m long distance, javelin, 60m sprint, long jump and swimming.
This year, 2008, I received first place in the following ES Olympic Dream Series events: triathalon, 200m, 60m & javelin and 2nd place for 400m and hurdles.
I love competing in athletics as it makes me feel nervous, happy and proud all at the same time. I would recommend being involved in athletics to anyone who has energy to compete!
