This week all class placements for 2008/2009 were finalized. Following many hours of research, checking friendship lists, consulting of teachers and reading parent requests, we believe that each student is poised to have another excellent year in 2008/2009. Class lists will be available for viewing on-line or in front of the Elementary School on Friday August 29.

ECC Students Lap Up Contributions for Earthquake Relief
Across the school, students have taken action on their compassion for the students and families or Sichuan who were affected by the earthquake. Last week, WAB's youngest classmates gathered on the WAB Track for a Walk-a-Thon. Donning trainers and sun visors, students circled the track, counting each lap with pride.

KG Students Lend a Green Thumb to Children in Sichuan Province
Walking for Myanmar
ES and ECC students rallied earlier this week to raise money, and awareness, of the ongoing need for relief in Myanmar. Students circled the WAB track during lunchtimes to raise money through a Walk-a-thon, and took their morning break in the WAB Peace Park to reflect on the needs of others. In total, students raised over 16,000 RMB for cyclone relief efforts.
The Economics of Charity: Grade 4 Classes Respond to Earthquake
With a spirit of compassion and caring, ES Classes 4G & 4T worked together to hold a charitable mini-bazaar to benefit earthquake relief efforts. Among the nine participating groups, students raised a total of 6,500 RMB by selling everything from handmade notecards and Chinese language adventure books to flavored ice and Fuwa pencils. In the process, students gained greater understanding of their current PYP unit on Economics.
Grade 3 Student Raises 17,600 RMB for Earthquake Relief
The day after Grade 3 student Amari raised 17,600 RMB for earthquake relief by swimming 20 laps in the pool, she sat down with the school journalist to talk about her experience. Perched daintily on the red couch in the Community Relations & Development office, her sneakers, capped with frilly socks, came nowhere close to hitting the floor.

The ES PE Department invites all ES students to celebrate athletics and the end of the school year next week with the annual ES PE Swimming Extravanza. Students are asked to bring a towel and swimming clothes according to the attached class schedule.
Healthy Habits in Grade 2
As part of a PYP unit on healthy habits, students in 2C engaged in a fun and practical experiment to learn directly about the importance of having a healthy, balanced breakfast.
ES Students Embrace Athletics, Olympic Spirit
WAB has always been an innovator in the field of Physical Education and extra-curricula activities. Yet over the past two years, the ES PE and WABX – ES have seen an extraordinary increase in the numbers of children participating in an expanded variety of voluntary sports.
ES Continues to Cultivate a Caring Community
ES students have undertaken a variety of fundraising efforts to benefit earthquake relief efforts in Sichuan province. Just this past week, the ES received reports of a Grade 4 swimmer who raised 26,500 RMB by acculumlating laps, and another student, from Grade 3, who swam to raise 19,000 RMB. While these are impressive figures for children of this age to be raising, what's most remarkable is the spirit of caring and community that children across the school have shown towards the people of their host country.
Grade 1 Takes Off with China Southern's Youngest Caption
Class 1T welcomed James Wu, the youngest captain flying with China Southern airlines, into their classroom on Wednesday for an interview conducted by tbjkids. Students had all kinds of questions for Mr. Wu, ranging from how long he had to study to be a pilot to how he'd handled his most challenging experience mid-flight.
