A New Breed of Athlete Emerges for ISAC Track & Field Meet

Almost 500 young athletes from eight different international schools competed in the ISAC ES Track & Field meeting hosted at WAB last Friday. Congratulations to WAB students, who claimed 70 of the 82 gold medals awarded that day, and especially to the WAB girls, who won 40 out of the 41 medals available. In addition, out of the 10 ISAC records broken during the meet, WAB students established 9 of them!

Olympic Torch Comes to KGL

KGL students oohed and ahhed when Sam held up a copy of the Olympic torch and recounted how his father had carried the official torch through Hainan last week. Sam's mother (pictured) joined in the fun with KGL!

Lost Property

Students and parents are reminded to check the Lost Property centers in the ES, MS, HUB and HS for those missing tracksuits, lunch boxes, umbrellas and other items. All property unclaimed after the last day of school will be donated to charity.

Elementary and Middle School Parent Program: The International Child

ES and MS parents are invited to attend a presentation by Caroline Simons, PhD, on the topic of "The International Child" on Tuesday May 20, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, in the Blu Theatre (HUB). Snuggle up with a WAB Pillow

Comfy WAB pillows are the latest item available at PTA Place (ES). Available in a variety of favorite colors (red, blue, green, yellow, black), these pillows make a great going away present for WAB leavers or for students transitioning to MS or HS. The WAB logo is embroidered on one side, the other side is great for kids to sign their names.

Letter from Denmark

Since leaving WAB, and Beijing, last December, WAB alums and sisters Ida and Mie have continued to excel in gymnastics in their home country of Denmark. The girls' mother, Helle, recently contacted WAB to share good news of how her daughters have continued to excel in gymnastics, following the two years they participated in Derek Davies' gymnastics program at WAB.

PTA Still Seeks Fun Fair Volunteers!

The PTA is still seeking volunteers to help out with the PTA Fun Fair, particularly with preparing activities and decorations before the actual date of May 24. The PTA Fun Fair committee will be meeting afterschool each schoolday in the ES Art Wing to prepare decorations. Francophonie Day in the ES

The Native French ES ASA group celebrated Francophonie Day on April 21 with a small party, including games and a potluck with lots of delicious baked items.

ESS Band Concert Rescheduled for Monday May 26

ES parents with children in the ESS Band are asked to take notice that the ESS Band Concert, originally scheduled for June 4, has been moved to Monday May 26 at 6:00pm in the Founders' Theatre. The ESS Band will be performing alongside the Grade 4/5 Choir for one stellar display of ES musical talent.

WAB Hosts Over 450 Young Athletes for ISAC Track and Field Event

For the 9th year running, WAB will host ES athletes from nine international schools across Beijing and Tianjin for the annual ES Track and Field International Schools Athletics Conference (ISAC) on Friday May 9.

ECC Nursery Students Pony Up to the Arts

This week ECC students shared song, dance, music and drama with their parents, families and friends during Performing Arts show. Dressed in hand-crafted pony hats, and outfitted in matching colorful T-shirts, WAB's youngest students demonstrated their learning (and joy!) in the arts.

Leading Children's Literature Expert to Visit WAB in May

The ES Library, with the support of the PTA and WAB's Distinguished Speaker Series, is excited to bring children's literature expert Diane Frankenstein to WAB to help us as educators and parents engage our children in reading and the love of it! ES parents are invited to attend a presentation on Wednesday May 14, 7:00pm - 9:00pm, ES Library, and again on Thursday May 15 during the school day.

Elementary School Dads, when was the last time you READ to your son or daughter? Perhaps last night, perhaps never! Either way, you have the chance to hear Children's Literature expert, Diane Frankenstein, talk about how to make reading with your child an exciting, stimulating and enjoyable experience for both of you! Two very important hours (7:00 - 9:00pm) on a Wednesday evening (May 14) might very well change your view on reading! Of course, Mums and friends are invited as well!

The Colorful & Creative Pandaman

Panda bears were all the rage in ES Art Teacher Margot Marks's classes last week when Mr. Zhao Bandi, aka the "Pandaman" visited WAB to share his love for art and the Olympic spirit.

Grade 5 PYP Exhibition: A Community of Learning

This week marked the Grade 5 PYP Exhibition, a significant milestones in the lives of all IB students. The Exhibition is a meaningful opportunity for Grade 5 students to share and reflect on the intensive learning they engaged in over the course of two PYP units of inquiry. Congratulations to all Grade 5 students on their achievements.

ECC Sports Day

ECC students will celebrate a morning of fitness, fun and the Olympic spirit with ECC Sports Day on Wednesday May 7. ECC parents are invited to come along and observe the fun, beginning at 9:20am on the ES basketball courts.
