Following the recent launch of the IBO's new Community Theme of "Shared Humanity," WAB is delighted to welcome Boyd Roberts, IB Community Theme Project Director, to WAB this week.

On Thursday April 3 Boyd meets with IB DP Coordinators from the Beijing region to discuss ways of implementing the theme into school curriculae. He will also be speaking with IB teachers from around the Asian region at the Global Issues Network Conference hosted by WAB this weekend, April 4 - 6.

Boyd's participation in both of these events will provide excellent opportunities for IB teachers from WAB, across Beijing and around Asia to learn more about the IB's new Community Theme and to share ideas about how the theme of "Shared Humanity" can be integrated into school curriculae.

According to the IBO website (www.ibo.org), the new, three-year theme "is intended to serve as a focus for the IB and IB World Schools, to capture the excellent initiatives that are already underway in many schools and encourage and inspire new activities, in and out of the classroom, around the following topics, which are based on the book "High Noon” by John Rischard (keynote speaker for the GIN Conference hosted by WAB April 4 - 6): Global poverty, Peace and conflict, Education for all, Global infectious diseases, Digital divide - uneven access to information and communication technologies, Disasters and emergencies.

Boyd has also been commissioned recently by the IB to write a book on the topic of Global Citizenship among IB schools. Boyd has invited WAB teachers to submit their own case studies of how Global Citizenship manifests itself among the WAB community.
