On Thursday afternoon, over 144 student athletes from international schools across China converged on the WAB sports fields for the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Division I Soccer Championships. WAB's popular rock band The Taken greeted the teams as they entered the field, creating a real spirit of community and fun. A team of Beijing's top lion dancers performed for a charmed crowd, which cheered when the dancers climbed atop a giant 'soccerball.' Following the festivities, international school athletes teamed up with student athletes from the Shunyi Special School for a
Friendship Match of Unified Soccer. The official championship games began that afternoon and will continue through Saturday.
