Inventeam is coming soon to WAB! The Inventeam initiative was created by the Lemelson MIT program, offering students in grades 8-10 the opportunity to experience the world of invention. WAB is one of six schools in China who will be a part of this exciting experience. The purpose of this team is to celebrate invention, innovation, higher order thinking and hands-on experience grounded in real-world contexts. Inventeam students choose a real-world problem and can apply for grants of up to $10,000 to develop an innovative solution. (http://web.mit.edu/inventeams/)

Students who join the WAB Inventeam will work collaboratively with teachers, parents and professionals in the field towards a solution to their real-world problem. Once the team has been selected, the school will be seeking expressions of interest from any parents who would like to share their valuable experience and knowledge with these students and contribute to their learning. WAB is fortunate to have a wide and varied parent population and this program offers a unique opportunity for students, parents and teachers to work together side by side.

The Inventeam ASA will start in season four of the 2009 – 2010 academic year. It will run bi-weekly for season four and weekly in the 2010-2011 academic year. A greater time commitment will be required as our product goes into its design and production phases – ready for Eureka Festival. (http://web.mit.edu/invent/eurekafest.html)

If you would like more information about this ASA, or would like to register an early expression of interest for yourself or your child, please contact Noor Parkar noor_parkar@wab.edu, or Saffron Conde saffron_conde@wab.edu.
