WAB's First APAC Choir Members
With WAB's new membership of APAC, HS students are receiving even more
opportunities to participate in sporting and cultural activities with
other high caliber students from across the Asia Pacific region. Music
is a major components of APAC, with three conferences each
year, for Choir, Strings and Band.
WAB's Compassion Reaches Sichuan
Many thanks to the WAB community for their generous donations to earthquake relief efforts in Sichuan, and to all who contributed through the PTA. Your donations have truly helped to relieve individuals and communities, including students and staff at the Nan Ba Zhan primary schools, as reported by the PTA Charity Committee.
WAB's First AP Calculus Class Excels
In May, a dedicated group of Grade 11 pupils became WAB's first students to undertake the Advanced Placement (AP)
examination in calculus, representing a significant step forward in promoting and
recognizing excellence within WAB's mathematics program.

The Team is Coming
Next month, WAB welcomes a four-party Accreditation Team to WAB for an extremely important visit. From October 20 - 24, representatives from CIS, NEASC, IB and NCCT will be on campus for the purpose of conducting an accreditation visit.
Olympic Education Continues Through Paralympics
Over the past year, WAB students have experienced once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to participate in the Spirit of the Olympic Games and to gain inspiration through community, sport and art and culture. Between the Special Olympics in Shanghai (October 2007), the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics, WAB students have shared the Olympic spirit by volunteering for countless activities, meeting athletes and supporting events.
Wild Duck Lake Thrives Again
Wild Duck Lake, the body of water mirroring WAB's High School building, is thriving again, thanks to the generous contributions of the WAB community and Bayer China through the "Green Generation" campaign. While further developments on the lake continue, including the bridge installation, the wetlands area is already being utilized as an educational center by WAB classes and Roots & Shoots groups from local schools and other international schools. In addition, members of the local community are enjoying the park-like atmosphere of the terraces, brightened by Canna lilies, Japanese iris, purple Lythrum and other plant species.
WAB Community Picnic
All WAB families, teachers and staff are invited to WAB's annual Community Picnic on Saturday September 6, 3:00pm - 5:00pm, on WAB's Sports Fields. Join the community as we celebrate WAB's very own Olympic "Closing Ceremony." The entire family will delight in an afternoon of Olympic-themed games, traditional Chinese entertainment, including a Lion Dance and acrobats, a special guest singer and a barbeque picnic lunch! Come along and meet new families, catch up with teachers and classmates or maybe even challenge WAB's new Director, Robert Landau, to one of the afternoon's messiest games!

IB Diploma Results for Class of 2008
WAB’s second class of Grade 12 students to undertake the IB Diploma
exams performed exceptionally well and significantly
above the global average. WAB students taking the full IB Diploma
averaged a score of 32 which is significantly better than the world
average of 30. This provides evidence of the high quality of learning
and teaching at WAB, and establishes a high benchmark for Grade 12 students studying for the IBDP at WAB.<br />
Mid-Autumn Festival
WAB wishes the entire school community a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival. Families are reminded that the school will be closed on Monday September 15 for the national holiday.

WAB Hosts Australian Olympic Committee for Beijing Games
Over the summer holiday, WAB hosted the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), which set up an Olympic home-away-from-home on WAB's campus. Each of Australia's 400+ Olympic athletes visited the ES Gym to pick up their official Olympic uniforms and to relax away from the Olympic Village.
WAB Recognized by BOCOG as an "Excellent Example of a Beijing 2008 Olympic Education Model School"
As a Beijing 2008 Olympic Education Model School, WAB has been celebrating the Olympics with a wide variety of academic, cultural, service and sporting pursuits. The extraordinary quality of WAB's focus on Olympic education was awarded this past week as an "Excellent Example of Beijing 2008 Olympic Education Model Schools." Out of the 500 schools from across China who were awarded by BOCOG as an Olympic Educational Model School, WAB was one of the 120 schools awarded as an Excellent Example.
