Over the past two weeks, WAB has welcomed several Distinguished Speakers for a series of presentations ranging from inquiry mathematics and parenting to air quality and climate change.

The WAB Alumni Network (WAN) is pleased to announce the planning
of six international reunions in January and February 2009 to kick off WAB's 15th anniversary. Reunions will be held in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Seoul, London, Boston and San Francisco!

HS Students Receive ECIS Grant for Migrant School Renovation Project
A Topic of Her Own
All Grade 12 IBDP students have recently completed their Extended Essays, one of the mandatory requirements of the IB Diploma. At 4,000-words, this original research paper is the culmination of almost a year of independent research on a topic of the student's choice.

Message from the Director: Accreditation
After five intensive days of an Accreditation Visit by 18 members from
four different accrediting agencies, Peter Gittins, Team Chair, addressed WAB staff
and Board members on Friday October 24 with a summary of the team's
recommendations and commendations for WAB. The committee's main message
indicated that WAB, which has experienced steady growth since its
creation in 1994, has now
reached a crossroads, a period for reflection, consolidation and
strategic thinking and acting as we move forward.

Book Week: November 17 - 21
WAB ushers in Book Week by welcoming PTA Visiting Authors/ Illustrators Narelle Oliver and Sally Rippin and stocking the shelves for the PTA's annual Book Fair.
Library Staff Reach a New Degree
WAB has launched an exciting new professional development opportunity for all locally employed Chinese Library Staff. Through a flexible, on-line training program, all 10 staff members are earning internationally recognized
certification in Library and Information Services.
What's Cooking on International Day?
On Sunday evening, many WAB families will gather in the kitchen to make traditional family recipes or other home country dishes to be shared during lunch on International Day. The Draugelis family will try to recreate their great-grandmother's bacon bun recipe, the Pacia family will be frying up Lumpiang Shanghai and the Kager brothers will try hard not to eat their mother's Gugelhupf straight out of the oven!
Modeling Olympic Education
WAB has recently received a number of individual and schoolwide awards from various divisions of municipal governments for its excellent commitment as a Beijing Olympic Education Model School. Special recognition goes to Amanda Clark, who received both an Outstanding Individual Award and a silver medal for her contributions as WAB's Olympic Education Coordinator.
