Traditional Chinese drummers opened the graduation ceremonies for WAB's second class of Grade 12 students in May 2008.

WAB’s second class of Grade 12 students to undertake the IB Diploma exams (in May 2008) performed exceptionally well and significantly above the global average.

WAB students taking the full IB Diploma averaged a score of 32 which is significantly better than the world average of 30. This provides evidence of the high quality of learning and teaching at `WAB, and establishes a high benchmark for current and future Grade 12 students studying for the IBDP at WAB.

Sixty-eight graduates in all sat the IB DP exams for either the full IB Diploma or a selection of IB Certificate with 40 WAB students achieving the full IB Diploma.

Our students sat for 40 different subject exams, ranging from French, Chinese and Dutch to Physics, Geography, Computer Science, and World History.

WAB students scored above the global average on 21 subject exams, averaging a score of 5.18 against a global average of 4.91, with 7 points as the maximum. Many WAB students scored perfect 7's on individual subject tests, with the strongest success in the areas of Mathematics SL, English HL & Chinese B HL. In these subjects WAB students gained a large proportion of grade 6’s and 7’s and our average was significantly higher than the global average.

Special congratulations to our top IB student who scored an overall total of 42 out of 45 possible points on the IBDP, securing her place at the University of Melbourne. Congratulations also to our three students who scored 41 points and are also off to various parts of the globe--one is off to University College (London), another will be studying engineering at the Technical University of Denmark and another one is off to study at Melbourne University.

Another of our Grade 12 students gained entry to Princeton University in the USA after completing 6 AP exams in Calculus, English, Physics - Mechanics, Physics – Electricity and Magnetism, History, and Biology.

Jenny Pollock, IB DP Coordinator at WAB, commented on how the exam results not only confirm the quality of learning at WAB, but also the superb quality of its teaching staff. "We are very pleased with the IB results again this year. The WAB recruitment practice of employing experienced IB Diploma teachers continues to pay dividends. A number of IB Internal Assessment feedback sheets from the IB Office indicated that WAB was to be commended on their familiarity with the Internal Assessment procedures and the organization of their internal assessment."

WAB is very proud of the Class of 2008 and their academic achievements, in addition to their performance in the CAS area. The CAS feedback report from the IBO on our May 2008 cohort complemented WAB on the level of serious engagement by all concerned. The report commended WAB’s CAS program which allows for commitment and real learning for the student and commented that in some cases, the level of student reflection was exceptional.

In the year to come, with WAB graduates venturing around the globe-be it studying at the London School of Economics, UK; Syracuse University, USA; University of St Andrews, Scotland; University of British Columbia, Canada; Pace University, USA; Oxford Brookes University, UK; New York University; reporting to military service; or volunteering for a gap year-WAB will be well represented with such a wealth of ambassadors for the school.
