MS WABX Awards Ceremony

WABX will hold an awards ceremony for MS students who participated in WABX sports during season 3, and for all MS students who participated in non-sporting activities this year on Monday May 19 in the Blu Theatre. The activity awards will be presented at 3:30pm, followed by the presentation of sports awards at 4:30pm. Snacks and drinks will be available in the Link from 4:00pm - 4:45pm. Parents are invited to attend.

WAB Hosts JUMP! Programs for MS & HS Students this June

JUMP! returns to WAB this June with a new and exciting Community Enrichment Project, which is offering an integrated and experiential approach to community development in International Schools around Beijing. Programs are on offer for middle and high school students from WAB and other international schools across Beijing. JUMP! will also be running a third workshop with students from the Taoyuan Migrant School.

MS Library Reminder

As the end of the school year approaches, all MS students (and parents) are encouraged to begin returning all resources borrowed from the Red Scroll Library. All materials are due by Monday June 2. Students are encouraged to visit the Library system online to access a list of all borrowed materials. Thanks for your support!

Lost Property

Students and parents are reminded to check the Lost Property centers in the ES, MS, HUB and HS for those missing tracksuits, lunch boxes, umbrellas and other items. All property unclaimed after the last day of school will be donated to charity.

Third Annual ACAMIS Chinese Singing & Instrumental Contest

Four Grade 8 students from WAB claimed prizes at the third Annual ACAMIS Chinese Singing & Instrumental Contest, which was held on May 10 at Dulwich College. Congratulations to Charlie, who won first place for a performance of traditional Chinese music on the piano, and to Sophia, Emiia, Emily and Melody for earning third place with a performance on Chinese instruments gu zheng (古筝)and erhu(二胡).

Calling All Rocket Scientists

Want to launch a rocket? The MS is calling all rocket scientists and other spirited participants to enter the prestigious inaugural WAB Science Challenge.

MS & HS Parent Workshop on Language Course Selection for 2008/2009 School Year

All MS & HS parents are invited to attend a parent workshop regarding WAB’s launch of an Additional Language Pilot Program for the 2008/2009 school year. The workshop will take place on Monday May 12, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, in the MS, Room 5105 (first floor, near Red Scroll Library). Parents with any questions regarding this program are strongly encouraged to attend.

MS Assistant Principal Reflects on MS Student-Led Conference Day

There was a wonderfully calm, reflective atmosphere in Middle School last Tuesday as students met with their parents to discuss their learning achievements so far this academic year at Student-Led Conferences. Students sat with their parents and talked through their portfolio of work, explaining what they had learnt across all of their subjects. The portfolios were organized according to the MYP Areas of Interaction - cross-curricular themes that help to link all the subject area together and help to connect school learning with life outside school.

MS Roots & Shoots Establishes Roots with Students at Taoyuan

To celebrate Earth Day, members of MS Roots & Shoots and students at Taoyuan migrant school recently planted twenty fruit trees in the Taoyuan school yard. It's fun to be part of the greening of Beijing!

Australian Opals Shine on WAB Tigers

On Tuesday afternoon, members of the Australian Women's Basketball Team held a skills clinic for WAB MS and HS students. Haje Halabi, HPE, reported, "Our kids were so thrilled with the way the Australian athletes interacted with them and got them involved. I have seen many sportspeople come to schools over the years, both internationally and in Australia, these women were wonderful in what they did and how they did it."

From the Warehouse to the Red Scroll

Yesterday 8 students from Grades 6 and 8 visited the huge government book warehouse (BPIEC) to select books for the Red Scroll. These students were representatives from the winning Reading Rocks Homerooms, a competition held each year to promote reading in the MS.

New Ensemble Jazzes up the Music Department

What started as a lunchtime jam session among a few sax players has grown into a 14-member MSHS Jazz Ensemble. The new ensemble, which includes one WAB Kindergarten teacher, performed for the GIN Conference earlier this month and is preparing now for the MSHS Musical Showcase, Thursday April 24, 7:00pm - 8:30pm.
