There was a wonderfully calm, reflective atmosphere in Middle School last Tuesday as students met with their parents to discuss their learning achievements so far this academic year at Student-Led Conferences. Students sat with their parents and talked through their portfolio of work, explaining what they had learnt across all of their subjects. The portfolios were organized according to the MYP Areas of Interaction - cross-curricular themes that help to link all the subject area together and help to connect school learning with life outside school. Parents feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with some very helpful suggestions for further improvement next year. Parent comments included:
- "SLC was good, now I understand what my child learns in class and also know a little more about MYP. Thank you very much for the conference."
- "It's great to see the progress she has made from last year; she has confidence now that she didn't have last year. Thanks to all of you teachers"
- "I usually only see my child doing homework but now I can understand the whole thing - what she learnt and what she improved in."
Also during MS SLCs, parents were shown the next development in parent access to PowerSchool. Parents were shown how to update their demographics information online by logging in to my.wab.edu and going to PowerSchool. It is now possible to update your address, phone numbers and email addresses to make sure that you continue to receive all the latest information from WAB.
