All MS parents are invited to attend a Parent Information Session on Saturday September 6, 1:15pm - 2:15pm, Blu Theatre (HUB) to learn more about the 2008/2009 MS Integrated China Studies Program. Parents are also asked to mark their calendars for the Grade 6- 8 China Studies “Foundation Trips,” September 18 – 19, 2008, and the Grade 6 – 8 China Studies Experiences: June 8 – 11, 2009.

Every year, WAB MS students participate in China Studies Field Trips, which usually take place the second week of September. Due to the late start of the 2008/2009 school year, the dates and format of next year’s trips had to be reconsidered. The MS and China Studies teams took this rescheduling challenge to also revisit the strengths of our current program and to discuss how we can further integrate China Studies within our curriculum.

As a result, we established the following objectives for the 2008/9 Integrated China Studies Program:
•China Engagement & China Global Coherence
•Experiential education launching & capping off curriculum
•Celebration of communities and Community & Service

In order to achieve these goals, and to accommodate the late start date for school, the MS and China Studies team have planned the following programs for the 2008/2009 school year. MS parents are encouraged to make a note of the following dates in their calendars.

I. Parent Information Session: MS Integrated China Studies Program

Grade 7: “How Can I Make A Difference?”, Changping County
Students will stay in a small Chinese hotel in Sanhe Village, by the Ming Reservoir and at the foot of the Mangshan National Forest Park. The group will travel by public bus and cycle a short distance in small groups, avoiding main roads (optional).

Grade 8: “What is my Responsibility to the Community?”, WAB & Vicinity
Grade 8 classes will sleep at WAB and conduct their learning in the Cuigezhuang and Hegezhuang townships in the vicinity of WAB.

III. Grade 6 – 8 China Studies Experiences: June 8 – 11, 2009
The final trip will be the culmination of all the China Studies experiences and the capping off of the curriculum for the year with a major focus on China Engagement and China Global Coherence. Locations to be determined.
