MS Students Size Up Australian Olympic Athletes

As one of the youngest volunteers for the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), Lachlan, Grade 6, rubbed shoulders with some of his favorite Aussies, including Laurie Lawrence, Grant Hackett and hundreds of other Australian Olympic athletes, coaches and officials.

Grade 5 Steps up to Middle School

Grade 6 level leaders offer a summary of Grade 5 - Grade 6 Transition week and provide useful information about the MS for parents of all current Grade 5 students.

The three main objectives of the Integrated China Studies Program in the MS for the 2008/2009 school year are: China Engagement & China Global Coherence, experiential education launching & capping off curriculum, and celebration of communities and Community & Service.

MS Science Olympics

Spirits (and science) soared on Thursday during the MS Science Olympics. Rocket launches (pictured here) were one of numerous scientific challenges presented to Grade 6 - 8 students on this fun day of hands-on learning.

"Pura Vida" for WAB's Spanish Speakers

On May 28, Spanish language students and native speakers in the MS/HS attended ‘Pura Vida 2008’. Michael McCarthy's students report: "We participated in piñata breaking, and the high school students let out some steam after final exams whilst swinging at the star shaped piñata."

MS Students Write as Little as Possible

Winners of the MS Microstory Contest will be announced at the MS assembly on Thursday June 12, but until then, the Red Scroll Library shares two amazing microstories written by two Grade 7 students.

Grade 6 Art Students Brave the Dark

The Grade 6 Art students have been the first to use the new black and white darkroom recently created in the HUB basement. The students have learned the art of black and white photo developing and have made photograms (similar effect to an X-ray) and pinhole camera photos using a shoebox and pinhole lens. It has been an exciting unit and the students love to watch as their pictures appear like magic under the red lights.

Two MS Students Star in Community Production of Oliver

Oliver the Musical is coming to town! It is a fantastic version of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, with music by Lional Bart. What makes this version even better is that two of WAB's Grade 8 students are in it, including Aaron, who landed the lead role of Oliver Twist!

Grade 8 Graduation a Crowning Event

Congratulations to all Grade 8 students upon their graduation from Middle School. On Friday June 6, Grade 8 students, teachers and parents gathered at the Crowne Plaza Wuzhou Hotel to celebrate Grade 8 Graduation. Congratulations to all Grade 8 students and best wishes as you prepare to enter High School!

MS & HS to Release Reports Online

WAB is pleased to announce that the MS and HS will be sharing final achievement reports next week online. This shift to online reports reflects WAB’s commitment to the Green Olympics, as we continue to identify ways to reduce paper usage. It also reflects our commitment to providing parents with ongoing and timely feedback on student achievement which is central to the MYP and IBDP.

MYP: Making Real Life Connections

Grade 7 English students welcomed Hafsat Abiola, an inspirational Nigerian activist who lives in Beijing, to the MS after studying Beverley Naidoo's novel, The Other Side of Truth. Strikingly similar to Hafsat's own personal story, Naidoo's book explores the fate of two Nigerian children who flee to London after their mother is murdered in a political killing.

Grade 8 Student Receives Top Awards from Girl Scouts & US Embassy

One of WAB's Grade 8 students, an animal lover named Joi, has not only made Beijing a safer place for cats, but set an extraordinary example for how youth can voice their opinions to help make a difference in the world.
