Many thanks to the Korean community for their contributions to the PTA earthquake appeal and the daily life of the school.

Thanks to the generosity of the WAB community, the Chengdu City Orphanage has recently received hundreds of much needed nappies and boxes of baby formula. The PTA Charity Committee responded to an urgent request from the orphanage, which received 400 additional orphans as a result of the earthquake. Special thanks to WAB's Korean community, which raised 5,000 RMB for this relief effort. In addition, the PTA Spring Bookfair raised 2,000 RMB and the PTA Fun Fair/Rock in the Park Silent Auction raised 34,600 RMB for earthquake relief.

Liz Durkin, chair of the PTA Charity Committee, reported: "The Chengdu City Orphanage received some 400 extra orphans as a result of the earthquake. Some of these children are new orphans and some have been transferred from other, worse affected orphanages. Among these are many new-borns and many sufferers from Cerebral Palsy. The orphanage reported a desperate need for both new-born formula and nappies ('lalaku') for these children."

The WAB community's response to the PTA's appeal for earthquake relief was much appreciated by the orphanage. "Mrs. Tangxia asked me to express to you on her behalf her deep gratitude for your generosity to 'her' children in this terrible time.," Liz said. "On behalf of Mrs. Tangxia and 'her' children, thank you!"
