Surmang Foundation to Benefit from PTA Charity Bazaar

The PTA has announced that monies raised through the 2008 PTA Charity Bazaar (November 22) will benefit the Surmang Foundation, which operates a high-quality primary clinic in Qinghai.

Christmas Dinner with Jane Goodall

The Jane Goodall Institute invites the WAB community to join Dr. Jane Goodall for a Conservation Christmas Dinner on Friday December 5 at the Traders Upper East Hotel. Tickets are on sale now in PTA Place (ES).

Apple Sale for the Children of Madaifu

The WAB community is invited to enjoy the apple harvest from Gansu and Shaanxi Province while supporting the Children of Madaifu.

Report from Sichuan

On Tuesday October 21, students at the Nan Ba Primary School in Sichuan province received a total of 33 new soccer balls, 66 badminton sets, 720 school kits and other school supplies, which were generously provided through the WAB community's contributions to the PTA's Earthquake Appeal last May.

PTA Food of the World: Desserts!

WAB parents are invited to learn about international desserts, or just have a yummy morning, by joining the PTA for Food of the World on November 3, 10:30pm - 12:30pm in the HUB Kitchen.

Jinpa Founder Visits WAB

Last week, the PTA Charity Committee and several Grade 5 classes met with Tashi, the founder of the Jinpa Foundation, which is the beneficiary of this year's PTA Charity Bazaar. Tashi shared his life story of growing up, uneducated, as a yak herder, and never even hearing about reading and writing until he left his area at the age of 21. He then traveled for a number of years and came back to help his people in '94. He has stayed there ever since. The benefits from the November 22 PTA Charity Bazaar will help fund a health education project operated by Jinpa.

The Yak Report

Thanks to the generosity of the WAB community and the proceeds from last year's PTA Charity Bazaar, the Jinpa Foundation has led a herd of 43 milking yaks and 43 calves over kilometers of rough mountain terrain to reach the Karmi School, located in one of the poorest regions of China.
